Situated on the rugged coastline overlooking the Isle of Arran, Craft Town Scotland is a haven for craft and design set within the picturesque small town of West Kilbride. Easily accessible by car or train from Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Scottish borders, Craft Town Scotland highlights the range of crafts designed and made in Scotland and beyond.
A community inspired development, the creation of Scotland's first designated Craft Town has transformed the town centre and helped make West Kilbride a better place to live, work and visit. Our contribution to both the local and national cultural landscape has been recognised by West Kilbride's award as one of Scotland's most creative places in the Year of Creative Scotland 2012.
We promote Open Studios all year round, offering visitors the opportunity to see and buy quality craft and design in one easily accessible location. Primarily craft workshops with the added bonus of a display and sales area, Craft Town Scotland boasts eight craft studios where visitors can meet craft makers and see work designed and produced on site. We are fortunate to have craft makers of the highest standard, from those just starting out to those with an international reputation.
The Gallery was launched in 2005 and within a relatively short period of time the quality of work exhibited has been recognised. In 2007 it was one of a small number of independent galleries highlighted in the 'Cutting Edge' catalogue as a place to see contemporary craft in Scotland. Following on from this, we are particularly excited about the launch of our dynamic new £1.5m development, the Barony Centre: Craft Exhibition Education and Events venue in March 2012. Designed by award winning architectural practice Ingenium Archial Limited, the redevelopment of a 19th Century 'C' listed church respects the traditional envelope of the building whilst adding contemporary interventions internally and externally. The facility will host the very best heritage and contemporary craft and design touring shows from the U.K. and beyond. Visitors will also be able to buy quality craft and design, take part in craft and design classes, enjoy a variety of cross art form events and finish with delicious snacks from our café.
All profits generated by Craft Town Scotland are reinvested into sustaining and developing West Kilbride's retail and cultural hub as part of our vibrant community.
