Before any work could be undertaken on the site of the old Barony Church, North Ayrshire Councilâ€™s Planning Permission required WKCIL to undertake a full Archaeology Survey as approved by West of Scotland Archaeology Service.
The West of Scotland Archaeology Service was established in 1997 by a Minute of Agreement between 12 Scottish Councils. WoSAS maintain and update the Sites and Monuments Record - the complete record of all known archaeological sites, finds, fieldwork and research for the West of Scotland. This database is used primarily to provide information and advice to the Planning Departments and other services of the WoSAS Councils.
The Archaeological Survey was conducted by Headland Archaeology, established in 1996, it s a wholly commercial company and one of the largest archaeology firms in Europe supplying services to the UK and Ireland.
