Scottish Feltmakers is a membership organisation and part of the International Feltmakers Association.   After an approach from the SF’s exhibition group, it was agreed that the Barony Centre would host an exhibition and workshop programme as a celebration of the very ancient craft skill of feltmaking. Used in many places in the world for diverse items, its versatility has lent itself to many different treatments, with new uses discovered by a new generation of artists and makers.

The works in the exhibition will consist of new pieces ranging from those influenced by traditional crafts and techniques to contemporary, concept-based work.  A selection of existing Scottish Heritage Banners, originally created by S F’s members to mark the Year of Homecoming 2009, will be included as a backdrop to the new work.

The Barony Centre, an award winning church restoration, provides an inspirational setting for exhibitors and visitors; this is an opportunity to add to our venue’s role as a creative hub within North Ayrshire and the West Coast of Scotland, particularly one which concentrates on promoting traditional and contemporary craft.  The S F’s members have been enthused by creating new work for the space and we hope this will lead to future collaborations which will aim to challenge and expand members’ creative development.

Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.

Open Saturday 26th April until 29th June 2014, 7 days per week 10am till 5pm except Sundays 12noon till 5pm.
