Environment Group
The community of West Kilbride has a strong volunteer movement in the areas of food security, sustainability and improving the environment around us. All the groups meet in a spirit of friendship and build resilience in an ever changing world where access to nature, food and wellbeing must be protected.

Get Fit, Feel Better and Get Exercise and a Chat in our Green Gym!
Our main work is provided during three hours each week. We meet every Friday morning from 9.30-12.30 starting in Garratt Gardens which is in the quarry opposite the Community Centre. You may enter through the galvanised gates and walk to the bottom of the road.
Volunteers may work at a level which suits them and can choose from a range of activities such as planting seeds and hanging baskets to digging holes and planting trees. We also value our social contact and meet during the morning for a well earned cup of tea.
You do not have to be an expert! Many of us are learning as we go.
Our volunteers maintain many community gardens. We cover the Station Planters, the Memorial Garden, Catlinn, Old Man’s Rest, the Barony Centre, the Cherry Orchard planters, the Boyd Orr Garden along with 9 other areas in the village. We also have two fields. One is planted as a wood and the other is being developed into a wild flower meadow and community orchard.
We have established more sustainable planting and have introduced a range of perennial shrubs and plants. We top up during the summer with colourful annuals some of which we grow ourselves.
We are keen to invite other volunteers to join us. If anyone would like to be involved in our work your assistance would be much appreciated.
If you are interested in joining us please contact us and we will arrange a time to say hello.
