52 Stories WK 2021

’52 Stitched Stories’ began as a grain of an idea in 2019 to stitch postcards once a week for a year and was designed for a small crafting group on the Isle of Arran. The idea quickly jumped the water to the creative community in West Kilbride.

Since then it has wrapped itself around the world with hundreds of people creating postcards for 52 weeks, or as many as life allows. The project has been driven by the members and a wonderful community of stitchers and makers has developed.

In 2019 the group in West Kilbride decided that people could make postcards from any materials leading to the makers creating a very diverse range of postcards including photography, ceramics, printing and stitching.  Alongside the group from Arran we held a very successful exhibition of our work in the Barony Centre in 2020.

Many of the group continued to make postcards throughout lock-down and there was great enthusiasm to get the group together again in 2021. We had several “zoom” meetings before meeting together in person in June 2021. It was great to reconnect with people and see their work. Hopefully we can continue to meet up monthly to share our work and ideas.
